This multi-year project is finally coming to Oxford Lakes! The decorative signs were received by the Oxford DPW around Thanksgiving 2020, but the weather delayed installation.  I spoke with the DPW Manager this past week and he is planning the installation and expects to begin mid April.  They will begin on the east side at Lakes Edge and Woodbridge Ct.  

 

Update! 4/18/2021 - I spoke with our DPW Manager on Friday 4/16 and he stated they were finishing installing the final signs, much quicker than either of us had expected. Thank you to DPW for the hard work and high quality install.  All that remains is the missing Oxford Lake Drive sign to be added at the corner of OLD and Leighton Lane. This was missing in the original order and I contact the supplier and they fabricated and shipped the missing sign within a week. I would expect that to be complete this coming week. 

 

To keep this project within a reasonable budget, we opted for minimal decorative signage.  Our original plan was to include a base kit that would add decorative details to the base of the posts. However, that was an additional $10,000.00 as we have many posts throughout the sub (52). The street signs are a standard 9 inch with required reflective material as required my the State.  Additional cost savings came into play with the stop signs themselves.  To save money, we decided to re-purpose the current stop signs.  New stop signs with a black vinyl backing was a cost of $5000.00. We chose the black and gold colors to keep in coordination with our other signage found at the north and south entrances.  Standard finials on top also chose to keep down cost. We also entertained more decorative items to dress up the signs, but it was just too costly. 

 

As for the installation, DPW did a fantastic job! Michigan code required for All Way signs to be added and the lowest sign on the post is required to be 6 feet from the ground.  All the signage and posts are uniform throughout the sub.  All stop and street signs and all the posts are the same height with all the street signs pointing the same way to keep the uniform appearance.  Concrete, gravel, and an additional treated 4 foot 4x4 was added to ensure our investment will last for years to come!
